During a time when businesses were failing across the country, a small paper mill in Canton, North Carolina was thriving, leaving employees in need of a safe place to save their money. In 1932, seven employees of Champion Paper Fibre Company joined together to create Champion Savings and Loan, known today as Champion Credit Union.
We offer the same products and services as a bank, but we are a not-for-profit banking cooperative, owned by our members, not by shareholders. In 2000, Champion Credit Union eagerly began offering their services to the public, now serving over 27,000 members in Haywood, Buncombe, Henderson, Jackson, Swain, Madison, Graham, Macon, and Transylvania Counties.
